Air Duct Sealing for Health & Safety
Give us a call and we can decisively show you where your home is being invaded by dust and other contaminates. We will use a particle counter to find out exactly how much your indoor comfort system (HVAC) is adding to your indoor air pollution.
We can demonstrate to you which type of air filtration device will be best for your needs and we can determine which ducts are leaking and what can be done about them. You have to give us a call…we will handle the rest.
Why do leaky ducts contribute to poor indoor air?
It really is simple and it will make a lot of sense to you. The supply ducts, these are the pressurized ducts after the furnace and before the room air registers, have many more joints and connections than the return air ducting (you may not even have return air ducting) that is before the air filter. If these joints do leak, all of them leak on systems pre-2008 (before duct testing was a requirement), the home loses air into the attic or under the home.
This creates a vacuum in the home. The vacuum must be satisfied. To satisfy the vacuum air infiltration occurs throughout the home.
Air travels backwards through the bathroom fans
Air travel backwards through the stove hood
Air travels backwards through the water heater flue and furnace flue
Air leaks occur through plumbing penetrations and electrical penetrations
Air leaks around windows and doors
Air leaks around electrical boxes, ceiling fixtures
That is the short list. Obviously we cannot fix every one of these leaks and allow the home to exist in a vacuum. The cost would be too great. The answer is simple, seal the ducts and prevent the home from becoming a vacuum sucking in contaminated air from around all these penetrations.
What is Air Duct Sealing?
That will depend upon what type of ducts you have, where they are located and what they are made out of. Give us a call. We will come out for free and test your system to determine what method or methods of indoor air quality are best for you, your family and your budget. It is a free estimate. |
